I have volunteered for:
I have travelled with Oshawa’s own World’s Largest Hockey Stick. This 10:1 huge scaled replica was featured at a Canadiens game at the Bell Centre in Montreal and at the International Pee-wee Tournament in Quebec City. Transportation was graciously donated by Via Rail and Mackie Transport. Built by Millwork, the stick was conceptualized as a catalyst in the effort to keep the Oshawa Generals in Oshawa and to support the building of a new Downtown Arena.
I organized the annual Downtown Scrub-Up, unofficially known as ‘downtown’s cleanest hour’. Local students, shopkeepers and City staff participated in picking up waste in the downtown and along the creek. Students were rewarded with a mini concert from Central Collegiate’s jazz band Central Nervous System. It was a great team effort to celebrate Earth Day and I hope it made a lasting impression on the students that participated. The City has continued an annual clean up in the downtown based on the success of Scrub-Up.
